December in San Francisco (and the Bay Area) is full of holiday celebrations, ranging from Holiday markets to Christmas shows, spectacular light displays, and family-friendly events. This is one of my favorite months in the city because you can really get into the holiday mood. Add to this list some well-decorated Christmas pop-up bars, organ concerts, and light shows, and you will have the perfect month to celebrate. The Great Dickens Christmas Fair

San Francisco Fire Engine Holiday Lights Tour

Experience the nation’s largest holiday projection event as downtown San Francisco transforms with large-scale animated light installations by 16 artists from around the world. This free festival spans seven locations, including the Ferry Building and Annie Alley in Yerba Buena. Highlights include the “Countdown to Glow” kickoff on December 6 at 5:00 PM and the “Glow on Front: A Neon Block Party” on December 13 from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

Winter Walk returns to Union Square from December 13 – 22, located on Stockton Street from O’Farrell to Post! Sausalito Lighted Boat Parade

The Sausalito Lighted Boat Parade is the perfect holiday event to share with friends! Get on the water or gather along the Sausalito waterfront. A fireworks show will follow the parade. Seated spots are also available.
German Holiday Market

The German Holiday Market recreates the festive atmosphere of a traditional open-air European winter market on Mountain View’s City Hall Plaza. Shop for unique, handcrafted gifts from Germany and local artisans: Wood ornaments and nutcrackers from Germany, Lebkuchen (gingerbread), Stollen, chocolate, toys, ceramics, and knitwear. Taste traditional German sausages and pretzels and warm up with a mug of Glühwein (warm mulled wine), the hallmark of these winter markets. The German Holiday Market offers plenty of activities for the entire family, including live performances and arts and crafts.
